Accidental Death of Joel L. Flindt, 52
Mrs. W. B. Flindt, of Storm Lake sends us a clipping form the Miami County, Kansas, Republican, giving an account of the accidental death of Joel L. Flindt, 52, a former resident of Estherville, and an employee of the Rock Island railroad.

The story of his untimely death follows:

“Injuries sustained when he fell under a loaded oats wagon Tuesday July 18, resulted fatally for Joel L. Flindt, a resident of this county the past fifteen years, the following afternoon, at Trinity Lutheran hospital, Kansas City, Mo. Flindt’s condition was not considered serious at first, but internal complications developed, and death occurred about five o’clock Wednesday evening, July 19th.

“The tragic accident came about as a result of a fall from a wagon of oats which Joel was unloading at the Paul Roberts farm, eleven miles northeast of Paola, where he was helping thresh. Flindt lost his balance when the hub of his wagon struck another, causing him to fall in front of the vehicle between the horses. The team became excited and started forward. Both wheels of the left side of the wagon passed over him. He was rushed to the hospital after Dr. O. C. Lowe, who was summoned from Paola, had administered first aid.

“Joel Lathrop Flindt was born January 21, 1881, at Estherville, Emmet county, Iowa. For more than 15 years he railroaded for the Rock Island, making a daily run in Iowa from his native town, Estherville. About 16 years ago, Mr. Flindt moved to Kansas, settling in this county. At one time he was employed here by Joe Miller in the meat market on South Silver street. For the past several years, he has been residing on the Al W. Beeghly farm, nine miles northeast of Paola. On January 22, 1920, Mr. Flindt and Miss Ella May Agard were married at Fort Scott, Kansas, and had since made their home in this county.

“Besides his widow, Mr. Flindt leaves six brothers and sisters. They are: Gilbert Flindt, Des Moines, Iowa; Charles Flindt, Sumatra, Montana; B. B. Flindt, Kimberly, Minnesota; W. B. Flindt, Storm Lake, Iowa; Emery I. Flindt, of Detroit; and Mrs. C. S. Roady of Paola.

"Funeral services will be held this (Friday) afternoon at the Presbyterian church in Wagstaff, Rev. D. C. Doten, pastor of the Christian church here, officiating. Interment will be in the Paola cemetery. Pallbearers are Floyd Delimont, Delbert Abney, Dan Mast, Joe Miller, John Grimes and Cecil Shannon. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, August 1, 1933)
