William A. Eisenhower
William Alonzo Eisenhower was born at Lacon, Illinois, August 29, 1865. His parents were James W. and Susan Kunkel Eisenhower. His youth was spent in the vicinity of his birth. On February 20, 1889, he was married to Rosella Wittenauer. Their family consisted of 8 children, 3 of whom preceded their father in death.

About four years after his marriage he moved with his family to Iowa and settled on a farm about a mile east of Huntington. In 1908 they moved to Estherville where they have since resided.

During the early years of his residence in Iowa he united with the Baptist church of this place. Twelve years later he and Mrs. Eisenhower transferred their membership to the Methodist church. He was a member of the Odd Fellows and of the Woodmen.

Some months ago he was affected with hardening of the arteries and his condition was known to be serious notwithstanding he put up a heroic struggle and several times when it seemed that the end was approaching he recovered and for several weeks past he was able to be taken out doors and greatly enjoyed the life in the open. For about three weeks before his decease his strength failed greatly and on Friday morning, September 11, he quietly passed away at the age of 60 years.

In addition to his wife there remain 4 daughters: Mrs. Elmer C. Jackson, Mrs. Otto Reimer, Mrs. C. P. Mauck and Mrs. J. E. Duncan; also one son, Arnold, all of Estherville. Two brothers also survive him: E. K. Eisenhower of Pontiac, Ill., and G. A. Eisenhower of Onarga, Ill.

The funeral services were held in the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon. The interment was in charge of the Odd Fellows and was made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, September 16, 1925)

William A. Eisenhower
W. A. Eisenhower, for thirty-two years a resident of Emmet county, passed away at his home in this city last Thursday evening. He had been in poor health since last November. This summer his condition improved enough so that he could be taken out of doors and wheeled in his chair. His many friends began to have hopes of his recovery and they were very kind and generous in trying to help him regain his health. On August 7th he was taken suddenly ill again and since that time had been confined to his bed. His death was caused from the summer flu. W. A. Eisenhower was born at Shenola [Chenoa?], Ill., on August 29, 1865. He spent his early days there with his parents on a farm. He attended the rural school and later the high school at Shenola. On February 20, 1889, he was married to Rosella Wittenauer, at Pontiac, Ill., and for four years he and his wife lived on a farm near his home town. In February, 1893, they settled on a farm near Huntington. Eight children were born to this happy couple, three of them having preceded their father in death. Eighteen years ago they left their farm and came to Estherville to make their home. They have lived here most of the time since then. Deceased was one of Estherville’s most respected citizens. He has worked hard to earn a comfortable living for his wife and family, who were always uppermost in his thoughts. He was known throughout the business world as a man of fair dealing and high principles and always lived in accordance with his idea of squareness. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church Sunday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. R. T. Chipperfield officiating. Interment was made in Oak Hill Cemetery. Besides his wife, who has been his companion and helpmate through all his trials and troubles, he is survived by four daughters and one son. They are Mrs. Mae Jackson, Mrs. Nellie Riemer, Mrs. Lillian Mauck, Mrs. Dove Duncan and Arnold Eisenhower, all residents of this county. The large number of friends who gathered to pay their last respects to the deceased Sunday and the beautiful floral offerings showed the great respect and esteem in which Mrs. Eisenhower was held by his many friends in this community. The Democrat joins the many friends of the Eisenhower family in extending them their sympathy in their hours of profound grief and sorrow. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, September 16, 1925)

The Vindicator and Republican includes: W. A. Eisenhower, a resident of this county since 1885, passed away at his home on Friday morning, September 11, following months of suffering from pernicious anemia. Mr. Eisenhower spent most of the time of his residence in this county on a farm near Huntington but moved to Estherville in 1908 so that his acquaintance in the county was extensive. He was but sixty years old at the time of his death.

[Survived also] by his seven grandchildren who have been such a joy to him during the past few years.

The funeral services were held in the Methodist church on Sunday afternoon. The interment was in charge of the Odd Fellows and was made in Oak Hill cemetery. Members of both the Odd Fellows and Woodman lodges of which he was a member, attended in a body. The profusion of the floral offerings and the many in attendance at the funeral bore testimony of the esteem in which he was held.
