Mrs. Emma Coleman was born May 28, 1855, at Manlius, Bureau county, Illinois. She was the daughter of William and Rosana Hewitt. Residing there during her girlhood days.
She was married to Horace Coleman, October 6, 1875, at Manlius, Illinois. Later moved to Glidden, Iowa. To this union were born two children, one preceding her in death. Charles Horace born February 10, 1888, died April 9, 1894; and Roy Adelbert, now residing at Estherville, IA.
Mr. Coleman died March 22, 1924. Mrs. Coleman spent her last days with her son Roy and family where she passed away November 16, 1929, at the age of 74 years, 7 months and 11 days. She leaves to mourn her loss two brothers and one sister. Danford Hewitt, of Manlius, Illinois, Chas. Hewitt of Manlius, Illinois, Katherine Hawn, of Osborne, Missouri; son Roy and wife Hazel, and three grandsons, Donald, Clifford and Roland, besides many other relatives and friends, who will remember her for her many good acts of kindness she has shown to them. She was a kind and loving wife and mother, and Christian lady, having joined with the Methodist church many years ago, and lived up to that faith until her death.

Hold Services for Mrs. Coleman, 74
Funeral services for Mrs. Emma Coleman, 74 years old, were held Monday afternoon at the Methodist church with the Rev. Thompkins of Terril and the Rev. Kenney of Spencer officiating. Mrs. Coleman had been confined to her bed for the past eight weeks and died Saturday at the home of her son, Roy Coleman, who lives near Raleigh. Mrs. Coleman has been making her home with her son since her husband died 5 years ago. She is survived by her son, Roy, two brothers, Charles and Dan Hewitt of Manilus, Ill., and one sister, Mrs. Kate Hawn, of Missouri, and three grandsons. Mr. and Mrs. Perry Hewitt of Roston were here Monday to attend the funeral. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, November 21, 1929)
