GILMORE FOSTER Heaven is a better place now that Elizabeth "Betty" Gilmore Foster is home with her Savior. Elizabeth died Tuesday, December 30, 2008, in Iowa City, Iowa. A memorial service was held on January 2, 2009. Elizabeth was born to Rose and Septimus Duggleby of Spencer Iowa on January 27, 1918. She grew up in Spencer and attended Grinnell College. She married Jefferson Woodrow Gilmore and lived in New Orleans with their two children Julie and Jeffrey. Elizabeth began a long career in education with the Jefferson Parish Public Schools by working with special needs students. She earned her master's degree and served as assistant principal at John Q. Adams Middle School and Grace King High School. She retired in 1979. Elizabeth was active in several professional organizations, including Delta Kappa Gamma, and was a long-time member of Munholland United Methodist Church in Metairie. Following Woodrow's death in 1981 Elizabeth relocated to Iowa City. A class reunion at Grinnell College eventually led to her marriage to Walter D. Foster March 13, 1993. Her family includes her husband, Wally; daughter, Julie Gilmore (Gary Hall) of Alexandria, Virginia; son, Jeff Gilmore (Cheryl) of Iowa City; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Memorial donations for a prayer garden can be made in her memory to Parkview Church, 15 Foster Road, Iowa City, IA 52245. (The Times-Picayune, New Orleans, LA, January 6, 2009)
