Charles Dawson, 73, Estherville, Dies; Rites Set
Charles Christopher Dawson, 73, of Estherville died suddenly late yesterday afternoon at his home, 521 N. 6th St. He was found dead in his pickup truck back of his house. Death was attributed to a circulatory condition.

Dawson was born Sept. 3, 1896, at Clarion, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Milton Dawson. He received his education in Wright County and Clarion schools.

He was married May 24, 1919, to Esther McCarty at Madelia, Minn. They moved to Estherville in 1929.

He farmed in Clarion and at Kanawha for several years and worked for the Hallett Construction Company for two years before beginning work for the Rock Island Railroad on a part-time basis in 1928. He began full-time work for the Rock Island as a conductor in 1936. He retired eight years ago.

He was a member of the Emmet County Historical Society, active in restoration of the Bolstad school and of articles for the museum. He was a member of the Big Brothers, American Legion, World War I Barracks where he had served as commander for two years, and of the First Christian church.

He is survived by his wife, Esther, of Estherville; two sons, C. Richard Dawson of Milwaukee and George Dawson of Estherville; a daughter, Mrs. Margaret Howard of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Lewellyn of Valley City, N.D., and Mrs. Lu Abels of Los Angeles.

His parents, a son, David, and a sister preceded him in death.

First Christian Church funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Grace Episcopal Church with Rev. Robert Karl Miller officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at Reese-Henry Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Thursday until noon on Friday. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, May 13, 1970)
