Eugene Cox, Son of Jess Cox, Scenic Painter, Passed Away
After a brief illness death came to Eugene Cox last Monday [March 1, 1937] evening. While he has been in poor health for sometime past he only became seriously ill about ten days ago.

Eugene was the son of Jesse Cox, the scenic artist of this city. He was born in this city October 2, 1906, and has resided here during his life time. He was a graduate of the Estherville schools and took an active part in dramatic art and was a star football player.

Eugene was a genial boy always with a smile and a pleasant word for everyone. He was musically inclined and played in the municipal band since he was a small boy and often sang with the band.

As a scenic artist he was exceptional for his age. He followed well in the footsteps of his father and if he had stuck to his task as an artist, he would have been one of the best.

He leaves to mourn his death, his wife, his father and two brothers.

The funeral services were held from the Mahlum and Anderson funeral parlors at one thirty today and from the Baptist church at two, the Rev. J. Albert Riggs officiating. Interment was made in the Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, March 4, 1937)
