Ashes of Local Man are Returned
The body of the late Jay Collins, who passed away at Madison, Wis., on March 8th, was cremated and the ashes were returned to Estherville. They were placed in the Mahlum and Anderson mortuary where they will remain until the family can get together for a burial service, possibly late this spring.

Mr. Collins was the son of Samuel and Martha Udora Loretta Collins pioneer Estherville residents. He was born just shortly after the family moved out of Fort Defiance. His brother, Gail Collins, who passed away several years ago, was one of the pioneer babies born while the family was living in the fort.

Funeral services for Mr. Collins were held at the S. F. Peacock & Son Mortuary in Milwaukee on Wednesday, Dr. Dakin, of the Baptist church, officiated at the service. Music was played by the Baptist church organist.

He is survived by two nephews, Romaine and Gaylord Collins, of Iowa City, formerly of Estherville. His father passed away on May 23, 1937 and his mother died on Sept. 29th of the same year. (Vindcator & Republican, Estherville, IA, March 13, 1941)
