Gaylord L. Collins Is Dead
Passed Away Tuesday Morning After a Brief Illness
About three weeks ago Gaylord L. Collins sustained a slight bruise on one of his fingers, but paid scarce any attention to it. The wound did not heal properly and caused the sufferer such pain that a physician was called in, and it was seen that blood poison had set in. Everything that medical skill could devise was put into use to save the life of the victim, but his days on earth were numbered, and at 2:15 o’clock Tuesday morning the Grim Reaper claimed his reward.

Gaylord Lewis Collins was born in this city on July 24, 1876, being at the time of his death almost thirty-eight years old. He was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Collins, old and highly respected citizens. Besides his parents, deceased leaves one brother, Jay, of Akron, Ohio, a wife and two children to mourn his early demise. He was married to Miss Bids Howe, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Howe, in January, 1900. To this union was born two children, Romaine, aged 12, and Gaylord Robert, eight months old.

Deceased began railroading twenty years ago, a career that he seemed particularly fitted for, as his success in that capacity has been marked, and for the past four years has been one of the Rock Island’s most competent, careful conductors. He was well liked by his fellow employees, and commanded the respect and esteem of this employers.

Funeral services will be held at the Catholic church Friday morning and the remains laid to rest in the Catholic cemetery. The Democrat joins a host of friends in extending sympathy to the bereaved relatives in the dark hours of affliction that have closed in upon them.
