Beloved Woman Called
One of Estherville’s most dearly beloved women Mrs. Anna Colt was called to her final reward Sunday [February 19, 1939] morning, the end coming quietly, about 8 a.m. Mrs. Colt had been confined to her bed for a years from a broken limb, the second since she was 80 years old. She had made a remarkable recovery from the first when the second accident occurred.Anna Herrick Colt was born July 21, 1854 in Benson, Hamilton county, New York, the daughter of James H. and Elizabeth Eldrett Herrick. When she was ten years old, she came to Fredericksburg, Iowa, with her parents and three brothers.
She was married there to Henry Bryant Colt and the family moved to Emmet county in1893, residing first at Swan Lake and later on a farm near Gruver and in the town of Gruver. In 1910 they moved into Estherville.
Mr. Colt passed away in 1929.
During her last illness Mrs. Colt has been tenderly cared for by her daughters, Miss Elizabeth and Mrs. Lucy Chalstrom who moved to Estherville from Spirit Lake. These two and a grandson James Chalstrom as well as more distant relatives survive.
Funeral services are being held this afternoon at two o’clock from the home in charge of Rev. Geo. Conley and at two-thirty from the Union Baptist church with the pastor, Rev. J. Albert Riggs officiating. Interment will be made in Oak Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Colt was a member of the Baptist church since she was a young woman and for many years was an active and interested member of North Star Chapter No. 200, Order of Eastern Star. Members of that organization are attending the services in a body. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, February 21, 1939)

Mrs. Anna Colt
Mrs. Anna Colt passed away at her home on East First Ave. South last Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. after a long illness. During the past year Mrs. Colt has been confined to her bed.She has been under the faithful care of her two daughters, Miss Elizabeth Colt and Mrs. Lucy Chalstrom, during her last illness.
Mrs. Colt was born in New York on July 21, 1854, and at the age of ten she moved with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Herrick to Iowa. With the family when they came west were three sons.
For years Mrs. Colt resided with her parents on a farm near Fredericksburg. In 1882, she was united in marriage to Henry B. Colt, and to this union there were two daughters born who were with their mother at the time of her death.
Mr. and Mrs. Colt moved to Emmet county in 1893 and settled on a farm near Swan Lake. Later they moved to Gruver where Mr. Colt operated a machine shop. In 1910 they became residents of Estherville.
The funeral services were held from the home on Tuesday afternoon at two o’clock and from the Baptist church, of which she was a member, at 2:30. The Rev. G. L. Conley officiated at the home and the Rev. J.A. Riggs at the church. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, February 23, 1939)
