Beloved Woman Called
One of Estherville’s most dearly beloved women Mrs. Anna Colt was called to her final reward Sunday [February 19, 1939] morning, the end coming quietly, about 8 a.m. Mrs. Colt had been confined to her bed for a years from a broken limb, the second since she was 80 years old. She had made a remarkable recovery from the first when the second accident occurred.

Anna Herrick Colt was born July 21, 1854 in Benson, Hamilton county, New York, the daughter of James H. and Elizabeth Eldrett Herrick. When she was ten years old, she came to Fredericksburg, Iowa, with her parents and three brothers.

She was married there to Henry Bryant Colt and the family moved to Emmet county in1893, residing first at Swan Lake and later on a farm near Gruver and in the town of Gruver. In 1910 they moved into Estherville.

Mr. Colt passed away in 1929.

During her last illness Mrs. Colt has been tenderly cared for by her daughters, Miss Elizabeth and Mrs. Lucy Chalstrom who moved to Estherville from Spirit Lake. These two and a grandson James Chalstrom as well as more distant relatives survive.

Funeral services are being held this afternoon at two o’clock from the home in charge of Rev. Geo. Conley and at two-thirty from the Union Baptist church with the pastor, Rev. J. Albert Riggs officiating. Interment will be made in Oak Hill cemetery.

Mrs. Colt was a member of the Baptist church since she was a young woman and for many years was an active and interested member of North Star Chapter No. 200, Order of Eastern Star. Members of that organization are attending the services in a body. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, February 21, 1939)
