Estherville Notes: A severe shooting accident occurred on the 7th about five miles south of the village. While Mr. Eugene Ridley and wife were out riding, with a loaded shotgun between them, the front wheel of the carriage went into a deep rut, the shock causing one of the barrels to explode, the contents of which penetrated the axilla of his left arm and remains imbedded in the flesh of his shoulder at the present time. Serious doubts are entertained of his recovery. (Palo Alto Reporter, Emmetsburg, IA, November 13, 1875)
