Anderson Rites to Be Monday

Thorwald E. (Tate) Anderson, 76, well known Emmet County farmer, died last night at 9:58 at Holy Family Hospital. He had been ill for about two weeks and on Thursday, Nov. 5, underwent surgery. Since that time his condition has been regarded as critical.

Mr. Anderson, who was born Jan. 28, 1888, at Parkersburg in Grundy [Butler] County, came with his parents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Lars P. Anderson, to a farm northwest of Gruver when he was six years of age.

The same farm had been his home all through the years as he built a house near that of his parents at the time of his marriage on Nov. 13, 1911, to Elma Dick of Estherville. The couple was married in Fairmont.

Mr. Anderson was a lover of flowers and shared many of those raised in the Anderson farmyard and garden with friends in the community.

He was a social member of the VFW Post 3388.

Survivors of Mr. Anderson include his widow, Elma; five sons, Lars, Harold, Francis and Oliver, all of Estherville, and Lester of Van Nuys, Calif.; three daughters, Mrs. Carl (Emmet Ann) Griese of Dolliver, Mrs. Cecil (May Rose) Eide and Mrs. Harry (Edith) Brandt, both of Estherville; also 30 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Twin brothers, Nelson Anderson of Englevale, N.D. and James Anderson of Fargo, N.D., and a sister, Mrs. Victor (Emmett) Peterson of Sioux City, also survive Mr. Anderson.

He was predeceased by a son, his parents, two brothers and three sisters.

Funeral services are to be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Christian Church, the Rev. Howard Wakelin and the Rev. Denzil Neuman officiating. A family service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery.

Friends may call at the Reese Funeral Home Saturday after 6 p.m. and until 11 a.m. Monday at which time the body will be taken to the church where friends may call until time of service. The casket will not be opened after the service. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 13, 1964)
