Mrs. Julian Archibald Funeral This Afternoon
After long suffering, death came on Sunday last to Mrs. Julian Archibald who has been for several years a resident of this city.

Mrs. Archibald has been a patient sufferer and her Christian faith has been a great aid to her in this her time of trouble. She was born in DeSmet, S. Dak., on August 23, 1886. She was educated in the public schools of that city. Later she went to Watertown where she was employed in a large store for four years. From there she went to the Sherman hospital at Elgin, Ill., where she graduated as a nurse and was president of her class in 1914. She was united in marriage to Julian Archibald of Watertown at Geneva, Ill. To this union there was a son and daughter born. The funeral services were held today at two-thirty, the Rev. Davies officiating and the remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, May 4, 1927)

Mrs. Julian Archibald
Mae Burdine Hanson was born at DeSmet, S. Dak., on August 23, 1886, and died in Estherville on May 1, 1927, at the age of 40 years, eight months and eight days. She grew to young womanhood in DeSmet, receiving her training in the public schools and entering into the Christian activities of the young people’s societies. She accepted a position in one of the largest stores in Watertown, S.D., and lived there for five years. Later she took training at the Sherman Hospital Training School for nurses at Elgin, Ill., and graduated as the president of her class in May, 1914.

She was married to Julian Archibald, of Watertown, S. Dak., on July 4, 1914, at Geneva, Ill. After a few months stay at Watertown the young couple came to Estherville and this has been their home ever since.

She leaves to mourn her going, a husband and two children, Earl and Florence, also four sisters and one brother. The sisters are Miss Camilla Hanson of Estherville, who has tenderly cared for her during a sickness of several years, Mrs. Florence Riter of Mitchel, S. Dak., Mrs. Nellie Platt of Arlington, S. Dak., and Mrs. Lillian Rahn of Elgin, Ill. The brother is Dr. F. W. Hanson, formerly of Estherville, but now of Paullina. These are present for the services.

Mrs. Archibald was a member of the Eastern Star. She was a faithful member of the Presbyterian church of this city. Born into a very spiritual home she had a deep religious nature. The fact that she has been an invalid for the last six or seven years has caused her to turn to her Master for spiritual help and strength and her greatest joy for some time has been to talk to her dear ones of her faith and hope in the Lord. One of her final requests was that at last when her body was being laid away the two sons, “Face to Face,” and “Lead Kindly Light,” should be sung.

The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church this (Wednesday) afternoon and the body was laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, May 4, 1927)
