Rites Held Monday for Jacob Zitterich
Jacob H. Zitterich, 59, well known Graettinger farmer, longtime resident of this area, died Saturday morning, Feb. 27, at Holy Family Hospital in Estherville following a lingering illness. Death as attributed to cancer. He had been hospitalized about two weeks.Funeral services were held in the Graettinger Methodist church Monday afternoon with Rev. R. O. Grote officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill cemetery at Estherville. The Martin funeral home was in charge of arrangements. Active pallbearers were Kenneth Starkey, E. B. Burg, Dan Miller and James Currans. Honorary pallbearers were Chas. Burg, Gib Reeves, Bill Herke, James Mahan, Leo Schany and Forrest Sipes.
Jacob Harms Zitterich was born April 9, 1900, the son of the late John and Margarite Zitterich on a farm near Graettinger. He married Elsie Mae Huntley Dec. 21, 1927 at Estherville. They farmed in the Graettinger area since that time. Mr. Zitterich was a board member of the Graettinger Adult Farm Class at the time of his death, was a member of the Northwest Trail Riders club, and was active in many other community events.
Immediate survivors include his wife, two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (LaDon) Fitzpatrick, of Estherville, and Sally of Graettinger; two sons, Robert and Jerry, both at home; two grandchildren, Theresa Ann and Jacqueline Sue Fitzpatrick of Estherville; five brothers, Henry of Terril, George of Estherville, Edward of Emmetsburg, Louis of Sherburn, Minn., and Albert of Dallas, Texas; two sisters, Regina Zerke of Estherville and Susanna Spoo of Minneapolis. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Fred and John, and a sister, Mrs. Harry (Christina) Michael. (Graettinger Times, Graettinger, IA, March 3, 1960)
