Obituary of Mrs. Mary Wiggins
Funeral services were held at St. Paul’s Lutheran church here April 18 for Mrs. Mary Wiggins, nearly 84, former Graettinger resident, who died April 16 at Clarion, Iowa. She had been in ill health for some time and had been making her home with a son, Arthur Wiggins.Mrs. Wiggins was born April 28, 1872 in Denmark. She came to this country at the age of 9. In1891 she was married to Torkel Knudtson who died in 1892. She married George Wiggins in 1896. Mrs. Wiggins lived in the vicinity of Goldfield for about 40 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Wiggins, who died in 1943 [1945], and by a daughter, Mrs. Frank Fuss.
Survivors are three daughters, Mrs. Lillian Richards of Clarion; Mrs. John Piehl of Hasting, Minn., and Mrs. Peter Hoffman of Logan, Ohio; three sons, Ted Knudtson of Graettinger, Wm. Wiggins of Columbus, Nebr., and Arthur Wiggins of Clarion. There are 16 grandchildren,15 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild who survive her.
She is also survived by seven sisters and three brothers. The brothers are Henry, Andrew and Pete Duus, all of Graettinger. The sisters are Mrs. George (Tilda) Godfrey of Ames, Mrs. H. L. (Anna) Warne of Laurens, Mrs. Harry (Carrie) Hornstrau of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Tom (Stena) Hurd of Winner, S.D., Mrs. Chris (Hanna) Jenson of Chicago, Mrs. John (Emma) Johnson of Estherville. Rites Conducted for Mrs. Wiggins
Clarion – Funeral services for Mrs. George Wiggins, 83, who died Monday [May 16, 1956] at Clarion Memorial Hospital where she was taken Saturday, were held Wednesday morning in the Eyler Funeral Home in Clarion and at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Graettinger in the afternoon. Burial will be at Estherville.Mrs. Wiggins was born in Denmark and came to the United States when she was nine years old. She grew up in Graettinger and then lived about 40 years at Goldfield. For the past 11 years she has lived in Clarion with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Wiggins.
Surviving are three sons, Theodore Knudtson of Graettinger, William Wiggins of Columbus, Neb. and A. L. Wiggins of Clarion; three daughters, Mrs. Lillian Richards of Clarion, Mrs. John Piehl of Hasting, Minn., and Mrs. Peter Hoffman of Logan, Ohio; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and one great grandchildren.
