Mrs. Eliza Helen, wife of W. J. Weir, died of consumption last Sunday morning, March 18th, at her home four miles north of town. She was born July 7th, 1858, in Waterloo, Iowa, and came with her parents to this county when about two years old where she spent the remainder of her life. She was married October, 1878. She has suffered from ill health for the last four years, the symptoms of her disease often puzzling her physicians. Her suffering during this long period must have been great but was endured patiently and even cheerfully until the end came on Sunday. On Tuesday afternoon a large company followed her remains from her late home to the Baptist church where the funeral services were conducted. Rev. D. Williams preached from John ii:2, “Our friend Lazarus sleepeth; but I go that I may awake him out of sleep.” The departed left to the care of the sorrowing husband two little children aged, respectively, eight and four years, these and their father have the sincere sympathy of many friends. (Emmet County Republican, Estherville, IA, March 22, 1888)
