Mrs. J. D. Weir Succumbs to Long Illness
After a lingering illness Mrs. J. D. Weir, a pioneer of this community, passed away at her home on First Avenue North at eleven o’clock on Wednesday evening [January 14, 1948]. Mrs. Weir was a well known woman here, especially to those who have resided here for a longer period of time.

She was taken to Holy Family hospital a short time ago but was released from the hospital and returned home on January 9. She suffered a stroke on Sunday from which she never recovered.

She was born in Vermont on September 28, 1862. She was educated in Madison, Wisconsin, and was married to Jas. D. Weir on May 18, 1886. They have lived in this city and community since that time.

No arrangements have been made for the funeral. She is survived by three sons and three daughters. Mrs. Irwin Nichols and Mrs. Ed. Sorum still reside in this city. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, January 15, 1948)
