John Sutton Stricken
John Sutton, 53 years old, died at his home on East Lawn, at noon Friday, a few hours after being stricken with apoplexy. Mr. Sutton’s health had not been good for several months and he had made several trips to Iowa City. He had been up and down most of the time, however, so that his passing came as a great shock to his family and friends. Deceased had made his home in Estherville for 26 years and in Emmet county since 1896. His most recent employment was with the Brackett transfer and storage company.John William Sutton, oldest son of the Rev. John and Mary A. Sutton, was born near El Paso, Illinois, on March 27, 1873, and died at his home in Estherville on December 3, at the age of 53 years, 5 month and 7 days. He lived with his parents near El Paso until l1896.
He was united in marriage July 29, 1903, to Minnie Yorks. She with his two sisters, Mrs. Martha Armstrong of El Paso, Ill., and Mrs. Nellie Swanson of Whittemore and two brothers, Wesley and Frank of this city are left to mourn his loss. His father and mother and three sisters having preceded to the Father’s Heavenly home.
John was a member and worker in the Free Methodist church here where his father was a pastor for many years.
Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Chas. Yotter of Plymouth, Iowa, assisted by Rev. R. V. Chipperfield, Monday afternoon and interment made in Oak Hill cemetery.
Those from out of town who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Swanson of Whittemore, Mr. and Mrs. Earl Armstrong, Lakefield, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Willis Yorks, Everett, Mich., and Mr. and Mrs. Francis S. Anderson and children of Ames. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, December 8, 1926)
