A.Stockdale Passes Away
Underwent An Operation a Few Days Ago Which Caused His Sudden Death
Well Known Here
Had Been in Poor Health for Years and had No Vitality to Withstand Shock

The community was severely and suddenly shocked last evening when the death of Allen Stockdale was announced on the streets. It was known he had been in a serious condition since the operation at the Coleman hospital on its opening day. He has been ill to some extent for some years past with ulcers of the stomach. It was decided an operation was necessary and Dr. Coleman undertook the difficult operation the day he opened the hospital. It was thought at the start he might recover but day after day it grew more doubtful. Yesterday his brother gave blood for transfusion but Allen’s heart was not strong enough to handle it and it accomplished nothing.

It was not long after the transfusion that he passed away. Mr. Stockdale has resided here for many years and has been engaged in the grain business. He was united in marriage to Marjorie Foshier and to this union there was born one son. For the past three years they have resided on the Foshier farm with Wm. Foshier, Mrs. Stockdale’s father. He was but 36 years old at the time of his death.

Allen Stockdale had friends numbered by his acquaintances. He was of a pleasant disposition regardless of his physical sufferings. He was a member of the local B.P.O.E. and Masonic orders and was quite active in the past. With his friends he was a close, loyal friend and he will be greatly missed by them.

The funeral services will be held from the home of his brother, J. E. Stockdale at three o’clock on Thursday afternoon and the remains will be laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, April 2, 1924)

Allan Stockdale Died Last Evening
Underwent Operation for Ulcers of the Stomach But Physical Condition Not Strong
Allan Stockdale died last evening at six o’clock. He underwent at very serious operation for ulcers of the stomach a week ago and never recovered. The news of his death was a great shock, even to his nearest friends. His condition was considered serious for a few days after the operation, but he seemed to improve and it was not until yesterday afternoon that his relatives became alarmed. He was conscious up to within a few moments of his passing away. Deceased had been a resident of this city for eighteen years and was well and favorably known to all. He was a brother of J. E. and Lloyd Stockdale and had operated a grain office in the Rhodes block for several years. He was a son-in-law of Wm. Foshier. Funeral services will be held from the Episcopal church Friday afternoon. The sympathy of the community is extended the bereaved relatives in their hours of profound sorrow. Was One of Most Popular Young Men of City – Lived Here Many Years

Tuesday night, Allen Stockdale, one of the most popular young men of the city, passed away at the Coleman hospital. He had undergone a very serious operation for ulcers of the stomach on Thursday but was unable to rally from the shock, although for a day or so he had seemed to be recovering. As a final effort a blood transfusion from his brother, Lloyd, was resorted to, but in vain.

Mr. Stockdale was thirty-five years of age, having been born on July 5, 1888 [cemetery records say 1889], at Walcott, Iowa. He came here with is mother and brothers and sister when he was eighteen years of age and has lived here most of the time since then. He was a grain dealer for several years, having charge of elevators owned by the Stockdale Brothers, and farmed for a year or so. He was note-worthily upright in all his business relations and socially a favorite.

He is survived by his wife who before her marriage was Miss Marjory Foshier, his four year old son, Billie, two brothers, J. E. and L. E. of Estherville, two sister, Mrs. W. L. Braughn of Omaha, Neb., and Mrs. W. E. Wolfe, of Welland, Ontario, Canada.

He was a member of the B.P.O.Elks and Masonic lodges and of the Episcopal church.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2:30 o’clock from the home of his brother, J. E. Stockdale, on north Seventh and burial made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, April 2, 1924)
