Carl Stutzreem was born in Macklenberg Province, Germany, May 11th, 1839, grew to manhood in his native land and was united in marriage to Miss Sophia Marie Dettmer on August 4, 1864. One child, Carolina Johanna, was born to this union.

Together with his wife and child he came to America in 1867 and settled at Cleveland, Ohio, but moved later to Port Clinton, Ohio where his wife died in 1884, August 26th. He then moved with his daughter and her husband to Chicago where they lived for three years after which they came on west to Sherburn, Minn., where he lived since except five years spent at Winona and the last ten years which he lived with his granddaughter, Mrs. Carl. F. Carlson of this city.

He leaves to mourn his death, his son-in-law, Carl Peters; two grandsons, Albert and Paul; and two granddaughters, Miss Hilda Peters and Mrs. Carl F. Carlson, all of Sherburn except Mrs. Carlson who lives in Estherville; besides those there are three great grandchildren, and many very dear friends.

Having grown quite feeble with age he was not able to get about with any degree of comfort for some months and lately had suffered much because of difficulty in breathing. On Saturday night, July 2nd, he fell asleep and entered eternal rest at the age of 82 years, two months and twenty-one days.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist Episcopal church and the Rev. J. W. LaGrone, pastor of the family, in charge of the services and the body laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery on Tuesday afternoon, July 5th. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, July 6, 1921)
