M. H. Sorum, 75, Is Dead
Brother of Late Marie Sorum
M. H. Sorum, 75, former resident of Estherville and brother of the late Marie Sorum, died at 7 a.m. yesterday at the Deaconess hospital in Minneapolis. Death was caused by heart disease, from which he had been suffering for the past two months.Sorum lived in Estherville for approximately two years, starting in 1946, and spent most of the time in Holy Family hospital. His wife died in 1947. He was born April 7, 1874, on a farm near Geneva, Minn., and as a young child moved with his parents to the Round Prairie community near Albert Lea, where he grew to manhood on a farm.
As a young man he was married to Thea Felland, and the couple was engaged in farming near Albert Lea. He was well known in Estherville where he came for frequent visits with his sister, Miss Sorum, when she was county superintendent of schools here from 1918 through 1947. Their mother lived with Miss Sorum until her death in 1923.
Survivors include a nephew, Herbert, near Albert Lea, and a son, Francis, who lives in Minneapolis, and a sister-in-law, Marie Felland, with whom he had lived recently in Austin.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at Round Lake Prairie Lutheran church, of which he was a member. Burial will be at Round Lake cemetery, five miles south of Albert Lea. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 25, 1950)
