Sifrit Son Rites Held Thursday
To Be Held for Small Boy Who Drowned in River on Thursday Afternoon July 7
Funeral services were held (today) Thursday at 1:30 in the Sternborg funeral home and at 2:00 p.m. in the Baptist church for Eldon Dean Sifrit, five year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Sifrit of Estherville. Burial will be at the Oakhill cemetery.

Eldon met death Tuesday afternoon when he was drowned in the south bayou of the Des Moines river near the bridge on highway 17.

Eldon and his brother, Kenneth, were playing with several children on the bayou bank on both sides of the river when Eldon was wading. He was suddenly pulled under the water when he stepped into a hole. Kenneth saw his brother come to the surface several times and started wading out to aid him but became frightened and went for help.

Mr. Sifrit who was coming home from work was told of the accident and rushed and pulled the boy out, but all attempts to revive him by the fire department inhaltor failed.

The water where the children were playing was only four feet deep but none of the youngsters were over eight years old.

Eldon, who was born October 7, 1936 an died July 7, 1942 is survived by his parents, three sisters, Betty, Doris and Beverly, two brothers, Larry and Kenneth and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Barlow. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, July 9, 1942)
