Mrs. H. O. Sillge Dies Following Short Illness
Another pioneer resident, Mrs. H. O. Sillge, passed away at the Holy Family Hospital last Thursday evening at 6:30. Mrs. Sillge had been in failing health on account of her age. She got up one night to let the woman who lived with her into the house. She slipped and fell breaking her hip. She was taken at once to the hospital where complications caused her death.Minnie Louise Sillge was born in Webster City, June 25, 1861. She came to this county with her parents in 1883. They resided in a log cabin south of this city. Mrs. Sillge taught school in our public schools for years and some of the early students in the schools remember her as a very efficient instructor.
Mrs. Sillge has always been very active in all civic affairs. She took a great interest in the city and its activities.
She is survived by one brother, Charles Carpenter, a nephew, Wilson Carpenter, and a niece, Mrs. Dan Harrington, all of whom were here for the funeral.
Funeral services were held on Saturday from the Sternborg Chapel at 2:30 and from the Presbyterian church at 3:00, the Rev. F. E. Conaway officiating. Interment was in the family lot in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, April 8, 1948)
