Ryder Dies in His Sleep
Well Known Local Auto Man Passes Sunday [August 16, 1942] A.M. at Milford; Services Here Wednesday

Death came Sunday morning to Chester Wilbur Ryder, 52, as he slept in his trailer house home at Milford. Mr. Ryder, well known garage man and machinist, had moved to Milford in May and was a machinist instructor at the federal NYA training school there. He had been in his usual health when he went to bed Saturday evening.

Cause of death was given as heart failure.

Mr. Ryder was born at Ruthven, the son of Frank and Lovica Barriger Ryder. He attended the Ruthven schools and moved to Estherville in 1911, making his home here almost continuously since that time. For a number of years he was a partner in the Ryder and Carr Automobile company and has been identified with this line of business until his death.

Surviving his passing are a sister at Gillett’s Grove and his wife, Mrs. Kitty Ryder, scores of friends and a number of distant relatives.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 2 o’clock at the Christian church with Rev. Fred Sawyer in charge. There will be a short prayer service at the O. E. Hedwick home at 1:30 p.m.

Interment will be beside his parents in Oak Hill cemetery. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, August 18, 1942)

Funeral Rites for Chet Ryder Held Wednesday
Funeral services were held for Chester Wilbur Ryder, 52, Wednesday at 2 o’clock at the Christian church with the Rev. Fred Sawyer in charge. There was a short prayer service in the home of Mrs. Myrtle Miller at 1:30 p.m.

Burial took place at the Oak Hill cemetery.

He was a partner in the Ryder and Carr Automobile company and has been identified with this line of business until his death.
