Mrs. George Rugtiv Pioneer of This City Passed Away Friday
Mrs. George Rugtiv, a pioneer of Emmet county, having resided here over the fifty year mark passed away very suddenly at her home on north Sixth street during the small hours of the night on Friday [December 4, 1936].

While Mrs. Rugtiv has been in failing health for some time past, there was nothing to indicate death was coming so soon. She evidently had a sudden heart attack and passed away very suddenly and very quietly.

Mr. and Mrs. Rugtiv have resided here for over fifty years. Both were born in Norway and settled in this county after spending about a year in Story county. Mrs. Rugtiv was of a very quiet nature and lived a quiet life, all in the interests of her family. For those who knew her well she was greatly beloved. She leaves to mourn her death her husband, one son, Oscar, of Waterloo, Mrs. Harold Lough of Visalia, Calif., and Mrs. H. W. Worley of this city.

The funeral services were held on Wednesday from the Norwegian Lutheran church, the Rev. L. A. Mathre officiating. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, November 26, 1936)

Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lough and children of Visalia, Calif., who were called here by the death of Mrs. George Rugtiv and George Rugtiv will leave on Sunday night for Visalia. Mr. Rugtiv plans to spend the winter in California, returning here in April. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, December 10, 1936)
