W. C. Reese Dies at Local Hospital Tuesday Evening
W. Carey Reese, twenty-five year old Rock Island employee, died at 8 o’clock Tuesday night at a local hospital following a major operation for stomach troubles.

Reese has lived practically all of his life in Estherville. He moved here from Emmetsburg last spring where he had been employed for a time in a garage and resumed his work at the Rock Island shops.

He is survived by his wife and two small children, Morris and Glenn, who live at East Maple street. He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. August Reese of Estherville, and by a sister, Mrs. Carl Walz of this city. He leaves one brother, Alpha Reese who lives near Des Moines, and three half-brothers, Cassius Elwood, who lives near Gruver and Fred and Riley Elwood of this city.
His father, August Reese, died a year ago. His mother married August Reese nearly twenty-eight years ago.

Funeral services are expected to be held Friday at the Baptist church. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, July 13, 1927)

The Palo Alto Tribune, Emmetsburg, IA, July 20, 1927, adds: Mrs. Reese is best known here as Violet Frost. Her friends extend sympathy to her in her sorrow.

Former Emmetsberger Passes Away in Estherville Hospital

William Carey Reese, 25 years old, died at a local hospital Tuesday evening at seven thirty. He was taken suddenly ill that morning of what was found to be gall stones and serious obstruction of the intestines. The operation was performed in a final hope of saving his life. Although he had complained considerably in recent months he worked as usual Monday at the Rock Island shops where he was employed as a laborer. He leaves a wife and two small children, the elder two years and the younger a tiny infant, and his mother, Mrs. August H. Reese. He is a half brother of Fred, Riley and C. H. Elwood and Mrs. Carl Walz of Estherville, and a brother of Alf Reese of Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon at 2:30 from the Baptist church and burial made in Oak Hill cemetery. (The Democrat, Emmetsburg, IA, July 20, 1927)
