George Price Died Suddenly at the Hospital
Taken Suddenly Ill and Operation Was Necessary
Funeral Services Sunday
Was a Respected and Well Known Citizen – Formerly Lived Near SuperiorThe sudden death of George Price at the City Hospital last Wednesday [June 4, 1919] evening was a great shock to the entire community and many were unable to believe it upon hearing the word. He was taken suddenly sick last Sunday evening and was taken to the hospital where it was deemed necessary to perform an operation in hopes of saving his life. He never rallied from the operation in the manner in which he should and on Wednesday evening he closed his eyes in the last long sleep. It was a terrible shock to his family and friends and the whole city of Estherville mourns the loss of this good citizen and friend.
Mr. Price was well known in this community. For the past eleven years he lived near Superior and this city. About two years ago he retired from the farm, came to this city, bought a beautiful home and settled down to enjoy life. While in the Superior neighborhood he lived on a farm and made a success in life in that capacity. He was a good neighbor, honest and industrious, and was well liked by everyone. Upon coming to this city he worked at odd jobs just to keep busy as he often expressed it.
Mr. Price was born in York, Pennsylvania, April 1, 1865. He was just past fifty-four years of age at the time of his death. He was united in marriage to Miss Maude Miller, at Yale, Iowa, on February 3, 1889. To this child one child was born, Mrs. Inez Reich, of this city. He was a member of the Modern Woodman, Knights of Pythias and the Odd Fellows. The Knights of Pythias of this city and the Odd Fellows lodge of Superior, attended the funeral in a body. He was a member of the Methodist church, having joined that organization in Yale in 1892. He was active in the circles of the local church and will be greatly missed in this institution.
He was one of ten children, all of whom are living. His father and mother also survive him. The mother, Mrs. W. S. Price, of Yale, was present at the funeral services. Other relatives in attendance were Mrs. Jennie Saunders, of Yale; Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Deal, of Lisbon; Mrs. Wilson, of Kansas City; Mrs. Reidman, of Fulta, Colo.; S. R. Miller, of Coon Rapids; A. M. Markwell, of Council Bluffs, and Mr. and Mrs. C. S. Hoor, of Lake Park.
Funeral services were held from the Methodist church last Sunday afternoon, Rev. Walter Torbet in charge, and they were largely attended by friends of this good man. He has passed on to the better world where sorrow and pain are unknown. He has solved the mysteries of death and we who are left behind can only live our lives as he lived his and thus be reunited on that farther shore. Memories of the life that is closed are left to us, to soften the ache of the heart. And these memories shall serve to guide us to that better land where there is no parting. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community in their hour of sorrow. (Estherville Democrat, Estherville, IA, June 11, 1919)
