Mrs. Robert Penn, 70, Dies at Home
Mrs. Robert Penn, 70, resident of Estherville for nearly 50 years, died at 8:20 a.m. today at her home at 925 Central avenue.
Mrs. Penn had been ill since last September and died of cancer.
Born Nov. 11, 1883, in Danzig, Germany, she came to this country at the age of about one year. She moved with her parents to Omaha, Neb., Independence and Sibley before coming to Estherville in 1907.
On Dec. 31, 1908, she married Robert Penn in Estherville and they have continued to live here since. Her husband operated a barber shop here until he retired in September, 1952. Mrs. Penn’s maiden name was Ada Romey.
She was a member of the Pythian Sisters lodge.
Surviving her death are her husband; daughter, Mrs. Frank Kemis; and grandson, Jimmie Kemis; a brother, G. A. Romey of Bellflower, Calif.
Preceding her in death were a brother and son-in-law, Frank Kemis, who was district court reporter here.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Presbyterian church, the Rev. Thomas G. Melton officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, March 27, 1954)
