Mrs. William Penn Passed Away Fri. At Home of Son
After an extended illness, death came to Mrs. William Penn last Friday [December 25, 1936] at the home of her son, Robert Penn, on East Lincoln street.
Mr. and Mrs. Penn are long-time residents of this county, having resided for many years at their farm home in Jack Creek township. About six years ago they moved to Estherville to reside with their son.
The editors have known Mr. and Mrs. Penn in a friendly way for some time. Mrs. Penn was a wonderful mother and wife, beloved by her neighbors and her friends were numbered by her acquaintances.
Only a few months ago, this devoted couple celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Theirs had been a life of happy contentment and service, one to the other.
The funeral services were held from the Robert Penn home on Sunday afternoon and from the Presbyterian church at two o’clock, the Rev. Claude Fausnaugh officiating. Interment was made in the Oak Hill cemetery.
Mrs. Penn is survived by her husband, and four daughters and two sons. They are Mrs. J. C. Molison of Spencer, Mrs. Mary Harlan of Hollywood, California, Mrs. Margaret Darling, of this city, Mrs. John Swift of Graettinger, William Penn of Olivett, So. Dakota, and Robert Penn, with whom she made her home here. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, December 31, 1936)
