Brother of Editor Patterson
Came Here From Laramie Wyoming Last Fall. Was ill at the Time of Anemia
Alvin E. Patterson, brother of Editor George E. Patterson, of this city, died in the hospital at Iowa City last Wednesday, April 19, of anemia, after an illness of about six months, aged 27 years. The body was brought here Thursday morning and the funeral held from the Patterson home on East Lincoln street Friday forenoon. Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery.
Deceased was formerly a resident of Estherville and was in the real estate and collecting business. About six years ago he went to Los Angeles, California, and from there to Laramie, Wyoming, where he remained until he became ill of anemia, about six months ago, when he returned to Estherville. Soon after he went to Iowa City and was placed in a hospital where he was given the best medical care and nursing to be had, but there was never any hope for him and he gradually grew weaker until death came as a relief last Wednesday. His brother George, for the past several weeks was a constant attendant at his bedside and was there when his soul passed to the great beyond.
A brother, Editor George Patterson, of this city, two sisters, Editor Jean Patterson, of Spirit Lake, and Mrs. A. A. Thiele, of Emmetsburg, are left to mourn his untimely death and have the sympathy of many friends in their affliction. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, April 26, 1911)
