John Harley Burt was born near Rockford, Illinois, December 3, 1856 to Olanda and Lucy Burt.
While still a young man he moved to Lake City, Iowa with his parents.
At the age of twenty-two years he was united in marriage to Anna Pierce. At this time they joined the Christian church.
To this union were born five daughters.
Mrs. Lulu Bogart of Lansing, Mich., Mrs. Retta Woodyard of Estherville, Mrs. Ethel Woodyard of Lansing, Mich., Mrs. Edith West of Carroll, Iowa. One daughter, Mabel, preceded her father in death.
On Nov. 8, 1903 his wife, Anna passed away.
On Jan. 31 1907, he was united in marriage to Sadie Redding of Morristown, New Jersey.
During their married life they lived in Michigan, then back to various places in Iowa settling in Estherville in 1922. He was a carpenter and cabinet finisher by trade.
He leaves to mourn his passing besides his wife, 4 daughters, 17 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Burt passed away Thursday, June 15. Services were held Saturday with Rev. Lawrence Guge officiating at the last rite. Burial was made in Lake City.
