The Passing of Samantha Berg

Miss Samantha Berg passed away this (Wednesday) morning after a lingering illness of cancer. She is the daughter of Mrs. T. O. Berg and has resided in Estherville and Emmet county all of her life. Miss Berg with her sister Serena have conducted a millinery store in this city for many years. She was an active member of Estherville Lutheran church, a graduate of our high school, and very highly esteemed in the community. Obituary will be given in full next week.

Samantha Engeline Berg was born Oct. 31, 1883 on the homestead of her parents Mr. and Mrs. Torsten Berg. She was baptized in Esthervllle Lutheran church Dec. 2, 1883 and on Nov. 2, 1899 confirmed by Rev. S. Strand. She grew to womanhood in this community and lived here until in 1910 when together with her sisters Serena she went to Grafton, N. D., where they were engaged in the millinery business. In 1919 she returned to make her home with her mother in Estherville and has resided here since. She has been in failing health since July, 1927. The best medical help was sought, but there proved to be no permanent cure for her ailment. The last few months she has been closely confined to her home. She never complained of any suffering but bore her affliction with great patience. It was her confession the day before she died that she was safe in the arms of Jesus. In that faith she fell asleep at 10 o'clock, Wednesday, Sept. 26. The funeral was from the home and in the Esthervllle Lutheran Church Saturday P.M. Rev. Mathre preached the sermon. Rev. strand also spoke. Interment was made at the Wallingford Cemetery. She leaves to mourn her departure her aged mother, and brothers Martin of Grafton, N. D., Louis of Esthervllle, and Oscar of Hampden, N. D., and sister Serena of Estherville.
