Aged Man is Dead
Thorvald Nelson Passed Away at His Home After Long Illness

Thorvald Nelson, 75, passed away at his home near School Section Creek Wednesday [June 4, 1941] evening following an extended illness.

No arrangements have been made for the funeral as yet pending word from the sons and daughters in California.

Mr. Nelson was born March 27, 1866, in Norway. When a young boy he came with his parents to the United States settling first on a farm in Pocahontas county. Later they moved to Emmet county and Estherville where Mr. Nelson has since resided. During his residence here Mr. Nelson followed the carpenter trade continuing until old age forced him to give up his work. He was married in 1890.

Surviving Mr. Nelson are his widow, one daughter, Mrs. Lowell J. Smith, of Oakland, Calif., and two sons, Martin Nelson of Phoenix, Ariz., and Robert Nelson, of Oakland, Calif.

Mr. Nelson was a member of one of the pioneer Estherville families. Coming to this community when the town and county was yet in its early stages he has played an active part in helping it to grow and progress. He has made hosts of friends in this county who mourn his passing away. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, June 5, 1941)
