Peter C. Nelson
Another old pioneer resident of the city of Estherville, passed away on October the sixth at the home of his daughter, Mrs. I. J. Iverson, of Fargo, N. Dak. For forty years he resided in this county and left here in 1914 to make his home with his daughters. He was also a resident of the old soldier’s home in St. Paul for a time.Mr. Nelson was born in Norway in 1844. He came to Blue Earth, Minn., in an early day and from there he moved to this city. He enlisted as a soldier in the civil war. He was united to Brita Gjelle. The children, Mrs. John Larson, Mrs. I. J. Iverson, Fargo, N.D.; Mrs. A. E. Ogren of Lakota; Mrs. C. F. Weckel, of Garrett, Kans.; Nordahl Nelson, of Davenport; and Ed. C. Nelson of St. Paul, Minn., were all here for the funeral services.
The funeral was held from the Estherville Lutheran church on Saturday afternoon at three thirty o’clock, the Rev. Mathre officiating. The American Legion had charge of the military services and Veterans J. S. Cox and H. C. Coon were honorary pall bearers. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, October 12, 1927)
Pete Nelson, 82, Veteran of Civil War Dies in N.D.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at the Norwegian Lutheran church for Pete Nelson, 82 years old, who died Thursday at the home of his daughter, Mrs. I. J. Iverson at Fargo, N.D. The Rev. L. A. Mathre had charge of the services and burial was made at the Oakhill cemetery.
Pete Nelson was born in Norway in 1844. Later he came to this country and settled at Blue Earth, Minn., where he was married to Miss Breta Gjelle. He served in the army during the Civil War and after the war he came to this county where he lived for forty years.
In 1913 his wife died and a year later he went to live with his daughter, Mrs. John Larson at St. Paul, Minn. A few years later he was admitted in to the Old Soldier’s home at St. Paul where he lived for ten years. Because of his poor health last January, he went to live with his daughter, Mrs. I. J. Iverson of Fargo, N.D., where he died.
He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. I. J. Iverson of Fargo, N.D., Mrs. John Larson of St. Paul, Minn., Mrs. a. E. Ogren of Lakota, Mrs. C. F. Weckel of Garnett, Kns., and two sons, Nordal of Davenport and Edward of St. Paul, Minn. (Estherville News, Estherville, IA, October 12, 1927)
