Obituary of Mrs. Hans Nelson

Mrs. Hans Nelson, whose maiden name was Helga Olson, was born in Oslo, Norway, on February 3, 1882, and died at the State Hospital at Cherokee Tuesday evening, July 21st. When claimed by death she was 49 years, 5 months and 18 days old.

She was married in May 20, 1902, to Hans Nelson in Norway. As a young married couple, she with her husband, came to America, locating in Estherville in 1906. Here she resided these 25 years. She has lived in this county with the exception of about our years, when she with the family, lived in Chicago.

Two boys were born to Mrs. Nelson, namely Alfred in Norway, and Olaf, born in Estherville.

Mrs. Nelson has been ailing more or less for the last two years, and especially during the last eight months. Her main ailment was nervousness, from which she totally collapsed. To the credit of her dear one it can be stated that all was done in their power to make her better, but her death could not be avoided.

She leaves to mourn her departure her beloved husband and her two endeared sons and also her aged mother residing in Norway, and a brother and sister living in Chicago and also two grand children.

A rest from all toil and sorrow,
Earth folds in her arms my weary form,
And shelters it till the morrow.
My soul is at home with God in Heaven,
Her sorrows are past and over.

The following were the pall bearers: Ernest Burdette, Chas. Martinson, Lee Eveleth, Martin C. Peterson, Claude Ketchum, Geo. Bowman.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. from Sternborg’s Funeral Chapel. Interment at Oak Hill Cemetery, Rev. Nordsletten, of Wallingford, officiating. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, July 29, 1931)
