Hans Nelson, 76, Dies of Heart Attack
Hans Nelson, retired contractor, railroad man and packing house worker, died at 4 a.m. yesterday at the age of 76. He died at the home of his son, Alfred Nelson, of a heart attack.
He had been at Holy Family hospital for a week but had been taken to his son’s home Friday night.
Mr. Nelson was born in Oslo, Norway, April 10, 1875. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran church and received his education in the public schools in Oslo.
He married Helga Olson May 20, 1902, in Oslo and came to the United States in 1906. Mr. Nelson worked as a contractor, for the Rock Island railroad and for the Tobin Packing plant for a number of years before he retired in 1948.
Survivors are his sons, Alfred Nelson of Estherville; two grandchildren, Richard Nelson of Hamilton Air Base, Calif., and Mrs. Everet (Madelyn) Ellis of Spirit Lake; and two great grandchildren, Judy Lyn Ellis and Linda Lee Nelson.
Preceding him in death were his wife on July 21, 1931, and his son, Olaf Nelson of Jan. 7, 1935.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Sternborg funeral home. Burial will be at the Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, October 8, 1951)
