Meningitis Fatal to Small Child
Ledyard – The community was saddened Saturday to learn of the death of little Deanna Nitz, seven-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Nitz of Estherville, and granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Max Nitz of Ledyard.

The little one was stricken with spinal meningitis nearly two months ago and has been in the Estherville hospital most of the time since. Just recently she had improved a lot and high hopes were held for her recovery, but she passed away on Friday, Nov. 21. (Algona Upper Des Moines, Algona, IA, December 3, 1953)
