Obituary of Benj. F. Nicoll
Deceased Had Been a Resident of Emmet County for Years and Was Well Known

Benjamin Freeman Nicoll was born September 29th, 1869, at Point Douglas, Minn., and died at his home on East Lincoln St., at 2:30 Sunday [January 31, 1915] P.M. aged forty-five years, four months and two days. He lived in Minnesota with his parents until he was twenty-one years old, when he came to Iowa, where he has lived most of the time since then.

On July 5th, 1891, he was united in marriage to Luella Moulton, of Maquoketa, Iowa. To this union there were three children born – Bernice Evelyn, Margaret Eliza and Una Ruth.

Mr. Nicoll has made his home in or near Estherville for the past ten years. He has been in failing health for the past five years and his disease has baffled the best of physicians during that time. After his death a post mortem examination was held which revealed the fact that his long illness and death was due to a tumor on the brain.

He leaves behind a loving wife, who has so faithfully and lovingly nursed him during his continued illness, his three daughters, his aged mother, two brothers, Wallace W. of Hastings, Minn., and George D., of Pine City, Minn., and two sisters, Mrs. Ada Cook, of Hastings, Minn., and Mrs. Hannah Swales, of Carman, Manitoba, Canada.

At the age of seventeen he united with the Episcopal church, confessing his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. For the past five years he has been a member of the Modern Woodman Lodge at Gruver.

The funeral services were held at the home on East Lincoln St., at one o’clock Wednesday, being conducted by the Rev. J. Frederick Catlin, pastor of the Union Baptist church. The body was laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, February 3, 1915)
