Vance R. Noe Was Veteran Local Printer
Vance R. Noe was born May 5, 1875, in Delavan, Ill., son of James Monroe and Alice Rusk Noe, died of heart disease Sept. 3 at 2:15 p.m. at Holy Family hospital.
While still a young boy he moved with his family to Fremont, Neb. Others in the family included two brothers and a sister.
He came to Estherville in the fall of 1901 to work for Frank Carpenter, publisher of the Estherville Democrat. Then, after the Estherville Enterprise was started he worked for that publication for several years and later for the Opera House Reporter. He won several awards in advertisement setting contests of the Inland Printer magazine.
On Sept. 3, 1903, he was married to Esther Hoover at the home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Ridley, founders of Estherville. To this union were born four children, Rex, Ruth, Jimmie and Jeanne.
In 1909 with the assistance of his wife who worked with him for many years, he started a job printing shop on the east side of the Estherville city square in a building which now houses Park View clinic. Several years later he moved to his present location and continued his printing business until his death.
The deceased attended the Baptist church and was an active member of the Masonic, Elks and Knights of Pythias lodges.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Jimmie, who was killed in an automobile accident, July 2, 1941, and Rex, who died of a heart attack, Feb. 21, 1950. His parents, brothers and sisters also preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Selmer Amdal and Jeanne; and one granddaughter.
Services were held Wednesday at Estherville Baptist church with burial in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, September 11, 1950)
