Wall Lake – Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at Peace Lutheran Church here for Mrs. Kathryn Nutzman, 81, of Estherville, who died of a gallbladder infection Feb. 14. The Rev. O. E. Weiss officiated. Music was furnished by the choir.

Pallbearers were Louis Batie, Emil Hess, August Quistorff, Alfred Mohr, John Bunge and Ed Albrecht.

After the rites here, the body was returned to Estherville, where another service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sandin Funeral Home, with the Rev. William P. Henline officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery at Estherville.

Mrs. Nutzman had undergone surgery last July, but had been in good health until six days before her death. She had planned to leave for Texas last Saturday morning with her son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. George W. Booth, to visit her youngest daughter, Vera E. Heyer, at San Antonio. She entered Holy Family Hospital at Estherville Feb. 11.

Kathryn Margaret Claussen, daughter of Jacob and Marie Claussen, was born on a farm in Benton County, near Belle Plaine, Sept. 19, 1874. As a young girl she moved to Sac County, where she was reared and attended school.

She married Ernest Heyer July 28, 1899. For ten years they made their home at Cushing, later spending a year each at Pipestone, Minn., and Storm Lake prior to moving to Estherville. Mr. Heyer died Nov. 14, 1921.

After her marriage to Carl A. Nutzman March 18, 1938, she lived in Wall Lake until shortly before Christmas when she returned to Estherville. Mr. Nutzman died Aug. 10, 1955.

Survivors include six children, Mrs. George (Gladys) Boot, Lester H. Heyer, Willard E. Heyer and Mrs. W. L. (Irene) Reed, all of Estherville; Luverne C. Heyer, Des Moines, and Vera Heyer, San Antonio; 12 grand-children; nine great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Mary Zimmer of Sioux City and Mrs. Matilda Hess of Wall Lake; two step-children, Marvin Nutzman of Wall Lake and Mrs. Woodrow (Hilda) Stock of Stanwood and seven step grand-children.

She also was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Lena, and Mrs. Therese Galts of Sac City who died Feb. 17, 1956.

Mrs. Nutzman was baptized and confirmed in Peace Lutheran Church, Wall Lake, as a young child. (Carroll Daily Times Herald, Carroll, IA, February 21, 1956)
