A telegram was receive on Tuesday morning by Mrs. L. Lough, Mrs. G. H. Morse and Mrs. K. V. Turner that their brother Ernest Neville had suffered a paralytic stroke at Los Angeles where he made his home. A second message in the afternoon reported him as being in a very serious condition, and in the evening another message told of his passing at six-thirty.

Ernest visited in Estherville last fall and was to all appearances in good health. He is well known here having grown to manhood in this city.

He learned the printer’s trade in the Vindicator office and was an expert linotypist. Since living in Los Angeles he had worked for the Los Angeles Times, which is indicative of his ability at his profession.

He was a steady, earnest young man and the news of his passing will be the source of sadness to his many friends here. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, April 23, 1924)

O. E. Neville Dead
Former Estherville Boy, Who Has Made Good, Dies Suddenly in Los Angeles

Word was received this morning by the sisters, Mrs. L. Lough, Mrs. Gail Morse and Mrs. K. V. Turner of the sudden death of their brother, O. E. Neville at Los Angeles, Cal. Ernie, as we all knew him here, has resided in California for several years. He has not been in the best of health of late and last week had a stroke. He was also afflicted with high blood pressure and it was from this cause that death came.

We have known Ernie from childhood and we can say we have never known a finer boy. He was afflicted with disease when he was two years of age. From this disease he lost his hearing. Regardless of this fact he educated himself. He carried on a conversation with his friends by watching the motion of the lips. Many times for hours we have carried on a conversation with him in this manner. He learned to operate the Linotype and was proficient enough along this line that he held one of the finest positions in the Ad. Department of the Herst [Hearst] Papers in Los Angeles. To say the least his advancement under his conditions was simply wonderful. He was a great reader and to those who knew him best he could carry on a wonderful conversation on almost any subject.

Some time ago his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. O. Neville, moved to California and they had a home there with Ernie as he was the only one of the children not married.

It is not known at this time whether the remains will be brought to this city for interment or not.

Ernest Neville was forty-two years of age at the time of his death. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, April 23, 1924)
