Obituary – Sidney Nance
Sidney Nance was born January , 1872, at Crawford, Miss. He passed away at his home in this city Sunday, May 26, at the age of 44 years and five months. In 1898 he enlisted in the U.S. army and served in the Spanish American war. He came to Iowa in 1912, where he continued to make his home until his death. September 10, 1912 he was married to Estelle Robinson. To this union three children were born, two girls and one boy [Per 1920 census: Frances Amy, Celesta Robinson., Sidney James]. He had been in poor health for some fourteen months. For a week or ten days he had been confined to his bed. He was converted to Christianity when twenty years of age, and united with the Baptist church, his father having been a Baptist preacher. About a year ago he united with the Christian church in this city. Sidney was industrious and worked steadily to provide for his family as long as he was able to do so. He was a good citizen and lived an upright Christian life. He leaves a wife, he three children mentioned and some relatives in the south to mourn his departure.

Funeral services were conducted in the Christian church by the minister, Rev. J. S. Coffin, this (Wednesday) afternoon at 2:30 and the remains laid to rest in Oak Hill Cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, May 31, 1916
