Death of An Old Soldier
Edwin McAffee died Saturday afternoon at his home on north fourth street, aged 70 years. Funeral was held from the Presbyterian church Tuesday afternoon and interment made in Oak Hill cemetery.

Obituary
Edwin McAffee was born June 8, 1845, near Roscoe, Illinois, where he lived with his parents until 16 years of age, when he joined Company C. 67 Illinois regiment. After the war he returned to the farm and on February 20, 1872, he was joined in marriage to Miss Helen York and moved to Audubon County, Iowa, the same year. To this union five children were born: Edna J. Bruner of Spooner, Wis., Willis T. and Leslie A. of this city, Herbert, having passed away in infancy, Edna Ruth Swartz passed away one year ago this month. In 1900 the family came to Estherville, where they have since resided. He died at 1:30 a.m. December 5, aged 70 years, 5 months and 27 days. There are left to mourn his death, his wife, two sons and one daughter and nineteen grand-children and many friends. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, December 8, 1915)

William McAffee, who has been a resident of this city since 1900, passed away at his home in this city a little after one o’clock on Sunday last. Mr. McAffee was born near Roscoe, Ill., on June 8, 1845. He resided there with his parents until sixteen years of age. At that time there came a request for soldiers, and he joined Company C 67th Illinois and served during the war. After the war had ended he returned to the farm in his old home. In the years 1872 he was united in marriage to Miss Helen York, and they moved to Audubon county, where they resided until coming to Estherville. To this union there were five children born, three of whom are still living, Mrs. Edna J. Bruner, of Spooner, Wis., Willis L. and Leslie A. McAffee, of this city.

Mr. McAffee was a member of the G.A.R. Post here and was one of the active members whose presence will be missed among the old familiar faces of the Grand Army men, as they assemble on next Decoration Day to pay their tribute to the departed comrades.

The funeral services were held from the Presbyterian church, the Rev. R. C. Mitchell officiating. The remains were laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery. There remains to mourn the death of this husband and father, the wife, two sons, and a daughter, together with nineteen grandchildren and many friends.
