Estherville – Clarence Mathieson, 80, Estherville, died Thursday at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital, Spirit Lake. Funeral services are pending at the Fuhrman Funeral Home, Estherville. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 27, 1976)

Estherville – Clarence J. Mathieson, 80, died August 26 at Dickinson County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday at the Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Harvey Throop officiating and burial at the Oak Hill Cemetery. Masonic services were held at Fuhrman Funeral Home Sunday.

Mr. Mathieson was born July 24, 1896 to Mr. and Mrs. Julius Mathieson near Cylinder. At the age of six he moved with his family to Ringsted where he received his education and graduated from Ringsted High School. He attended Business College in Omaha, Neb.

He was married to Harriet (Rae) Gallup Sept. 6, 1922 at the Presbyterian Church in Estherville. In 1923 he and George Lorimor formed the Mathieston-Lorimor Insurance Company and after Mr. Lorimor’s death in 1928 the firm became known as the Mathieson Insurance Company. Several years ago the business was sold to John Parsons, Estherville. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was a veteran of World War I.

Survivors include his widow, Rae; two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Randolph, Redwood Fall, Minn., and Mrs. Alan (Dorothy) Dunphy, Pembroke, Mass.; four grandchildren; and two sisters, Mrs. Minna Cole and Mrs. Nettie Nissen, Estherville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and three sisters. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, August 30, 1976)
