Former Resident Dies
Merton O. Mead, 82, former resident of Estherville, died last Wednesday in a rest home at Sarasota, Fla. He was in the restaurant business here and was custodian of the Elks lodge during its early days, when lodge rooms were where Mack J. Groves later made his office. In Florida, where he moved in 1924, Mr. Mead owned and operated a wholesale news business, from which he retired. He was born at Nashua, Iowa. He was a member of the Sarasota Lodge No. 147 AFAM Royal Arch Masons and was a Knight Templar. His widow, Mrs. Helen B. [Hanson] Mead, survives him.
