Myrtle Lilley Dies of Stroke at Age 86

Mrs. John (Myrtle) Lilley, 86, longtime resident of Estherville, died Thursday [November 21, 1967] about 3 a.m. at the home of her sister, Mrs. P. M. Brubaker. Mrs. Lilley’s death was attributed to a stroke.

Mrs. Lilley had lived for the past several years with her sister.

Myrtle L. Dimm was born June 16, 1881, at Thompsontown, Pa., the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. David Dimm. She receive her education in that area and came to Emmet County in 1916.

In June, 1941, she was married at Montpelier, Ohio, to John C. Lilley. Mr. Lilley was mayor of Estherville for many years and also was chief of police here. After his death Mrs. Lilley continued to live in their home on First Avenue South until she moved to her sister’s home on North Seventh Street.

Mrs. Lilley is survived by her sister, who now lives at the Good Samaritan Center; and a niece, Mrs. L. E. Peterson of Dearborn, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and one brother.

Funeral services for Mrs. Lilley are to be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at Fuhrman Funeral Home, Rev. H. Allen Wirtz officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home today and until time of the services.

Pallbearers will be F. T. Shadle, Delbert Hinsch, George Brunskill, Donald Pro, Harmon Veldey and R. C. Edlen. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, November 24, 1967)
