Mrs. Emil Leo Dies Suddenly
Word Received Here Sunday of Sudden Death of Mrs. Leo in California
Operation Causes Her Death
Letter Tells of Sudden Death.
The Remains Expected Here This Evening for BurialWord was received here the first of the week of the death of Mrs. Emil Leo, who with her husband, her mother and sister was spending the winter in California. There was nothing in the telegram which indicated the cause of death and it came as a sudden shock to the many friends of the family in this city. Several of our residents had heard from them in the past few days and they were all letters or cards indicating the visitors to the western state were enjoying a most enjoyable winter. Nothing had been heard direct from the family giving details of the death, and it is thought the letter had gone astray. A letter received in this city this morning by friends who were in California says that death followed an operation, and came suddenly and unexpectedly. The operation seemed successful and along towards morning Mrs. Leo advised Mr. Leo to take a little rest. Within a short time thereafter Mrs. Leo passed away suddenly.
Mrs. Leo was formerly Miss Marie West and was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo. West, who were one of the earliest settlers in this county. She has grown to womanhood here and has many friends in this county, and many loving neighbors who will mourn her sudden death.
No arrangements have been made as yet for the funeral services, but it is probable the remains will arrive here this evening or not later than Thursday morning, as they left California Sunday.

She was united in marriage to Emil Leo of Estherville on June 2, 1909.To this union were born three children, two of whom preceded the mother to the better world. One daughter, Iva Delle, together with the husband, her mother, seven brothers, four sisters and many other relatives survive to mourn her death. She was a faithful wife and devoted mother and was greatly loved by all who knew her.
Except such time as Mrs. Leo had spent in California during the winters of late years her entire life had been spent in Emmet county where she enjoyed a wide acquaintance. She was a member in good standing of the Methodist church and Sunday School and other auxiliaries and societies in the church.
Funeral services were held from the home of Mr. and Mrs. Archie Bixby and the Methodist Episcopal church on Friday morning, December 10. The church was crowded with sympathetic friends and relatives. There was a great profusion of flowers which beautifully bespoke the high esteem in which she was held by her friends and neighbors. Rev. J. W. LaGrone of the Methodist church was in charge of the services and was assisted by Rev. J. Arthur Hurley of the Baptist church and the music was furnished by Mrs. Dooley, Mrs. Gylenvan, Mr. Albert Mahlum and Mrs. Claire Foote. The body was buried in Oak Hill cemetery.
