Thos. A. Lien Dead
Thomas A. Lien, an old and respected citizen of Estherville, passed away Wednesday at his home in this city. The funeral was held Friday from the Norwegian Lutheran church and the remains were interred in Oak Hill cemetery.

Thomas A. Lein was born in Skanevik, Norway Oct. 18, 1829, died Sept. 11, 1907, at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 6 days.

He emigrated to America the 25th of July 1854 and settled near Lisbon, Ill., then moved to Roland, Iowa, in 1860 and from there to Estherville in 1890. He was united in marriage to Helen Tungesvig, Oct. 27, 1856, and to them four children were born, three of whom are still living.

Some time after the death of his first wife (Jan. 25, 1964) Mr. Lein was married Jan. 23, 1865 to Christina Engebretson. To this union nine children were born, six of whom are living.

He was mustered into United States service Oct. 6, 1862 and served until the close of the war. He was a member of Company K 32nd regiment, Iowa volunteers and served under Captain George S. Pierce and General Leonard Smith.

He is survived by a wife and nine children. The children are Miss Julia Lein, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Louisa Gaaseland, Bellingham, Wash.; Amos T. Lein and Mrs. Isabella Metcalfe, Des Moines; Mrs. Mary Olson, Jewell; J. B. Lein, Minneapolis, Minn.; and Mrs. K. K. Nan and Misses Bessie and Gertrude Lein of this city.

The pall bearers were old soldiers of the Civil war, namely Messrs. Coats, Haynes, Coon, Ketchum, Severson and Nelson. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, September 18, 1907)

Death of Thomas A. Lein
Thomas A. Lein died Wednesday at his home on north Eighth street at the age of 77 years, 11 months and 6 days. He had been sick for some time with heart trouble.

Deceased was of Norwegian birth and emigrated to America in July 1854, settling near Lisbon, Ill., later removing to Roland, Iowa, in 1860. He was united to Helen Tungesvig on October 27, 1856, and to them four children were born, three of whom are still living. After the death of his first wife in January 1867 he was married to Christina Engebretson in January 1868, and to this union nine children were born, six of whom are now living. Mr. Lein served as a soldier during the war from 1862 to 1865. He was a member of Company K, 32nd Regiment Iowa Volunteers and served under Captain Geo. S. Pierce and General Leonard Smith.

Deceased is survived by his wife and nine children, namely: Julia Lein, Denver, Colo.; Mrs. Louise Gasseland, Bellingham, Wash.; Amos T. Lein, Des Moines; Mrs. Isabella Metcalfe, Des Moines; Mrs. Mary Olson, Jewell, Iowa, Mrs. K. K. Nan and Misses Bessie and Gertrude Lein, of this city, and J. B. Lein, Minneapolis.

Funeral services were held Friday afternoon, Rev. T. C. Thompson preaching the sermon and the pall bearers were old soldiers, C. I. Haynes, Amos Ketchum, H. C. Coon, Peter Nelson, A. R. Coats and S.
