The Passing of Mrs. Emeline Jones
Mrs. Emeline Jones died at her home in this city Friday, September 6th, of typhoid fever, aged 62 days, 5 month and 2 days. Funeral was held from the Methodist church Monday afternoon at two o’clock, Rev. Torbett officiating.Mrs. Emeline Jones was born April 4, 1856, in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin. On November 1, 1879, she was united in marriage to Austin Jones of the same county. To this union three sons and three daughters were born: Roy Jones of Estherville, Mrs. Scott Miller who died May 22, 1917; Mrs. Florence Lind of Minnesota; George Jones, who died at the age of two years; Private Harry Jones of Camp Jackson, South Carolina; and Miss Alice Jones of Estherville.
In 1901 the family moved to Dickinson County, Iowa, settling on a farm four miles west of Estherville. In 1913 the husband and father passed away after which Mrs. Jones and the unmarried children moved to Estherville, where she resided until claimed by death.
Until stricken with her last illness Mrs. Jones was in excellent health and had not been ill for twenty years.
She was a devoted and indulgent wife and mother, a kind neighbor and a true Christian lady. (Vindicator and Republican, Estherville, IA, September 11, 1918)
Mrs. Emeline Jones
The sudden and unexpected death of Mrs. Emeline Jones, at her home on North Seventh street last Friday evening, caused great sorrow among her neighbors and friends who had learned to love the kind hearted lady. She was never too busy to stop her work and help a neighbor with perplexing problems. The little children loved here because she was always a friend to them. Hers was a life of service and she will be greatly missed by her family, friends and associates.Emeline Jones was born in Sheboygan county, Wisconsin on April 4, 1856. She was married to Austin Jones on November 1, 1879, and to this union was born the following children: Roy, who lives in this city; Mrs. Scott Miller, who died May 22, 1917; Mrs. Florence Lind, of Minnesota; George, who died at the age of two years; Private Harry Jones, who is stationed at Camp Jackson, S.C., and Miss Alice, of this city. The family moved to Iowa in 1901. In 1913 the father and husband passed away, and the family moved to Estherville, where they have since made their home.
Mrs. Jones’ death was caused by typhoid fever. She had not been feeling well for about three weeks, but did not call a doctor until the Sunday preceding her death. After taking to her bed she failed rapidly and the end came about ten o’clock Friday evening. Harry did not reach this city until Tuesday morning. Funeral services were held from the home and from the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon, Rev. Torbet in charge. Burial was made in Oak Hill cemetery.
