Funeral Services for Mrs. Knute Johnson Held on Sunday
Guri [Julia] Larsdatter, the daughter of Lars and Anna Johnson, was born December 18 [1862] in Moranger, Norway. She came to America with her parents when 3 years of age. Her folks settled in Clinton County, Iowa. She was confirmed in Kvinherred Lutheran Church, Clinton county by Rev. Jacob Frost.

On the 7th of November, 1883, she was united in marriage to Knut Johnson of Story City at St. Petri Church by Rev. Lars Sherven.

They took up their residence in Holstein, Ida County, Iowa. From there they moved to Los Island, Palo Alto County, where they farmed for 20 years. Then in 1912 they moved to Estherville where they had purchased a home on East Lincoln street.

Their union has been blessed with six children, three sons and three daughters. One son, James, died at the age of 25 years. The rest are all living, namely:

Lewis Johnson of Moline, Ill.; Malinda, Mrs. Cliff Halleck of Estherville; Daniel Johnson of Estherville; Hannah, Mrs. Martin Olson, of Estherville; Sofie, Mrs. H. E. Gammon of Des Moines. She is also survived by her husband, a sister, Mrs. Carrie B. Anderson of Grand Mound, Iowa, and a brother, Lars L. Johnson of Heron Lake, Minn.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnson united with the Estherville Lutheran Church on Jan. 3rd, 1919 and have continued as members since that time.

Mrs. Johnson has been failing in health for some time. After a more severe illness of five weeks she passed away shortly after midnight, Friday morning, June 26.

The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock from the Estherville Lutheran Church with Rev. L.A. Mathre officiating.

Interment was made in Oak Hill cemetery. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, July 1, 1936)
