Obituary of Clarence R. Jeffries
Clarence R. Jeffries was born in Adair county, Missouri, December 7, 1881. When he was nine years old he moved with his parents to Nebraska and settled on a farm near Stratton. During these years he acquired his common school education. In 1898 he began a course in pharmacy at Des Moines. After finishing this course he engaged in the drug business and for nine years conducted the Jeffries-Birney drug company business in Estherville. After an interim of about a year he again engaged in the same business as an employee, and later was associated with Jay Johnston drug company with which he continued until about fifteen months ago.

On January 15, 1911, he married Miss May Wanamaker and they at once set up their home in Estherville, which continued to be their residence until his death.

About three months ago he went to the Bethel hospital in Mountain Lake, Minnesota. He had suffered from pernicious anemia for sometime previously. He received several transfusions, and everything that medical skill and experience nursing could suggest was done for him. After more than three months of fluctuating experiences he died on Tuesday evening, January 11, at the age of 45 years.

He is survived by his wife and two daughters, Celia and Alice; also his father and only brother, Albert, who is a physician and, but for his urgent practice just at this period would have been present with the father at the funeral. There is also one uncle surviving.

Mr. Jeffries belonged to the Masonic order. He was diligent in his business activity. He loved his home and family and his life revolved largely about these two centers. He manifested an admirable self control in his daily life and not once through all the months of his weakness and indisposition did he offer a word of complaint. Taken in mid-life he naturally cherished a desire to recover health and be restored to his family. When this appeared impossible he accepted the inevitable with humble resignation and commended his soul to the keeping of his Savior.

The funeral services were held at the home on Friday afternoon. Interment took place in Oak Hill cemetery in charge of the Mason. (Estherville Enterprise, Estherville, IA, January 19, 1927)
